Pilmeny Youth Centre
Situated in the Lorne area of Leith, Edinburgh, the Pilmeny Youth Centre provides social, educational and recreational activities for local children and young people aged from toddler to 19yrs.
Member groups are staffed by a team of part-time youth workers, provided by the Pilmeny Development Project via City of Edinburgh Council, Children and Families Services, as well as independantly funded youth staff.
The building is leased from our local Pilrig St Paul's Church, who were the previous owners of the adjoining building. The centre was the old church social hall until 1984 when the local Pilmeny Development Project, based not 200 metres from our front door, took up the fight with the then Lothian Regional Council, to lobby for a total re-furbishment of the building. It took five long years before the council listened to the needs of the community and funding was provided in 1989 to transform the centre into the facility it is today.
